The UK’s first openly-available public libraries contact database has been launched, listing the UK’s 4,040 public libraries.
The initiative is part of a major data development project initiated by not-for-profit organisation the Collections Trust, whose Find A Library website encouraged users to find the locations of libraries. The database also contains unique identifiers, branch names, postal addresses, telephone, e-mail and web addresses.

CILIP is supporting Save Our Libraries Day, a day of action to bring greater attention to the cuts and closures facing many public libraries.
We want everyone who cares about reading, literacy and libraries to use their public library on the 5th February and tell as many people as they can to do the same.
Und hier auch nochmal ein CILIP-Text. In Sheffield lud der Gemeinderat einen Unterstützer von Bibliotheken wieder aus, s. Sintoblog.
Voices for the Library @flickr
Auf der Bilderablage-Plattform Flickr wurde eine Gruppe “Voices for the Library” angelegt, bei der Fotos abgelegt werden, die für den Erhalt von Bibliotheken gedacht sind. Sehr rührig ist dort beispielsweise Phil Bradley, der entfremdete Plakate mit Durchhalteparolen aus dem Weltkrieg eingestellt hat, die jetzt Durchhalteparolen für Bibliotheken enthalten (> “Save Libraries Retro Posters“)
