An interesting parallel emerges here: in book publishing (Google Book Search), music sales (Apple’s iTunes Store), and television distribution (YouTube), the digital distribution channel is being controlled by tech companies, not by content owners or traditional retailers. And in the last two cases, one company has emerged as the dominant player (book searching is still fuzzy, since Amazon and Google are locked in battle over book search and display), and the content owners have realized, in both cases, that this is a recipe for corporate heartburn that no antacid can cure.
RandomHouse und HarperCollins stellen Widgets zur Verfügung, mit denen man in Büchern suchen kann analog Amazons “Search Inside”-Funktion. Ars Technica hat die Details.
